Abstract

Wind energy represents one of the most important renewable energy re-sources that can support electrical power systems. The main targets of the study in the thesis are The first target is to investigate the overall impacts of wind energy inte-gration on power system steady state and dynamic performance. The effect of wind energy on power system transient behaviour is evaluated by replacing conventional generators gradually by wind turbines (WTS). The results indi-cate that the system transient stability can be improved with WTS integration in power systems in some cases. Also, the influence of WTS insertion on power system behaviour in the presence of congestion in the transmission system is investigated. The congestion in the transmission system can be eliminated and voltage profile can be improved by integrating the WTS at certain locations.
