Abstract

Two pots experiments were carried out at Faculty of Agriculture’s Nursery, Mansoura University, Egypt. During the two summer seasons of 2011 and 2012 to investigate the effect of salinity levels on growth and chemical content of jojoba seedlings (Simmondsia chinensis) for knowing what is the highest salinity which the seedlings will effect with that and will show that in results. The obtained results could be summarized as follows:The irrigation with saline water from 2000 PPM to 10000 PPM caused a significant decreasing in the chlorophyll a , b and the total chlorophyll content compared to the control (tap water ). And the increasing of the time from 15 days to 120 days increased the chlorophyll a , b and the total chlorophyll content in both seasons in the first treatment ( tap water ) but in the other treatments the chlorophyll a , b and the total chlorophyll content decreased in both seasons whereas the height decreasing of the chlorophyll a , b and the total chlorophyll content was at the second treatment ( 10000 PPM ) and the content of the chlorophyll a , b and the total chlorophyll increased step-by-step till arrived to the fifth treatment ( 2000 PPM ) which was the height content of the chlorophyll a , b and the total chlorophyll compared to the last 3 treatments (10000, 7000, 5000 PPM). The Ion Leakage percentage, The protein carbonyl group and lipid peroxidation number: A marked increasing in the ion leakage, the protein carbonyl group and the lipid peroxidation number in both seasons with the salinity increasing from 2000 to 10000 PPM compared to the control (tap water). The increasing was significantly in measured parameters during both seasons of the experiment. All the last informations appeared that the seedlings were affected with the salinity whereas the ion leakage percentage when increases it means that the plant cell wall is abandoned so more ions move from the cell to the outside and when the salinity be height the plant cell wall be abandoned more so the ions move more so the ion leakage be height. The protein carbonyl group means the quantity of the abusive protein which found in the sample and that abusive protein increases with abandon of the plant cell wall and abandon of the plant cell internal contents which happen when the salinity be height. The protein carbonyl group is like the lipid peroxidation number whereas the lipid peroxidation number means the quantity of the abusive lipid in the cell which produced from the abandon of the plant cell wall and the abandon of the plant cell internal contents and which happen when the salinity be height .The last samples results at 120 days recorded the height values of measured parameters compared to the other samples results at the other times. Under the same experimental conditions, it could be recommended that for producing the height growth of jojoba plant with high quality must irrigate by water with salinity concentration up to 2000 PPM. And can irrigate by water with salinity concentration higher than 2000 PPM but that will affect on the quality of the vegetative growth and the internal contents and when the salinity concentration will increase we will find the affection on the plant will increase too. And never irrigate by water with 10000 PPM because this concentration blast the plant, dry and omit the leaves and some of the anemic plants will dry completely then die
