Abstract Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) is the major cause of visual impairment in diabetic patients. In the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) , 6.4% of patients with diabetes mellitus developed severe visual loss (visual acuity less than 5 feet/200) due to macular edema. The risk for moderate visual loss (loss of 3or more lines) was 24% in the control group.Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) can present itself as focal or diffuse.
