Abstract

The present study was carried out to investigate Brucellosis among ruminants as (545 cattle, 280 buffaloes, 475 sheep and 150 goats) from different areas in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate to clarify the prevalence of the disease among them. In addition to evaluate some serological tests for diagnosis of Brucellosis. In this investigation, serological examination of serum samples were subjected to four serodiagnostic tests revealed that the RBPT detected more reactors 130 (9%) than BAPAT 119 (8.2%), CFT 122 (8.4%) and iELISA 125 (8.6%). The prevalence rate of Brucellosis based on RBPT showed high percent of positive reactors in Fuwwa (14.4%) followed by Kafr El-sheikh (13.5%) and Bieyala (11.8%) than other areas of Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate may be due to difference in applied management in each area or failure or absence of vaccination program in some herds. The Brucellosis prevalence rate among different species of ruminants in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate using RBPT was highest in sheep (12%) followed by cattle (8.4%), goats (6.6%) and finally the lowest incide presumptive tests and should be confirmed by iELISA.Thus, the prevalence rates of Brucellosis among different species of ruminant in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate according to iELISA in this study become 8.3%, 5.7%, 11.6% and 6% in cattle, buffaloes, sheep and. In the present study, a total of 59 seropositive animals have been employed to isolate brucella organism from their tissue specimens after emergency slaughtering including lymph nodes, spleen and foeti. The bacteriological, biochemical and serological examination revealed the isolation of brucella strains typed as B. melitensis biovar 3. One of the main goals of this investigation was to reach a proper diagnosis as an essential tool in correctly identifying infected animals for the control and eradication of Brucellosis in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, through this study we found that the detection of brucella using PCR assay was highly sensitive and specific than other immunological methods, but the test is fairly expensive to perform.
