Abstract Alexandria city, the main summer resort in Egypt, lies on the Southern coast of the East Mediterranean, west of the Nile Delta, It has population of more than two and half million, Tt is known that the quality of its coastal waters, which receive untested domestic, industrial and sociocultural wasters has progressively deteriorated, thus causing a decline in Fishing and tourism which are of great economic importance to the city. Several industrial plants are located to the west of Alexandria on Mex Bay, which receives a continuous direct discharge of industrial cultural and domestic wastes. In addition, it receives atmospheric fallout from the nearby industries, especially the large cement factory. The wastes dumped from the ship traffic to and from Alexandria Western Harbor, together with those from the large number of fishing boats, add their effects on the water quality of Mex Bay to those of the effluents. The present work is part of a comprehensive invest- nation of the environmental conditions in Alexandria Coastal waters. |
