Abstract
Since the beginning of civilization man has constanty sought to understand and exploit the elements around him nowhere has this struggle been more intensely pursued than in our quest to find new and alternative energy forms in recent decades as the world has gone from one energy crisis to another the search to find or develop alternative energy resources has increased at present roughly 94% of our total energy consumption is based upon conventional fossil fuels i.e. coal petroleum and natural gas the supplies of natural gas and petroleum are rapidly approaching depletion and many of our coal depostis although abundant are environmentally unacceptable because of related air pollution problems nuclear power and oil shale are expected to play and important role in the energy picture by the year 2000.
