Abstract
occuring in about 6 per cent of all women and Breast cancer is the commonest cancer in females, l~fetime incidence of cancer of all types in women is about 27 per cent, nearly one out of every four women with cancer will have breast cancer Silverberg and Holleb 1974). (Rush 1974; It has long been recognized by Huggins and Bergenstal 1952 that some human breast cancers are hormone-dependent” in that fluctuations in the levels their growth is of steroid sex influenced by hormones andthey und e r q o regression after surgical removal of glands responsible for production of supporting hormones. Empirical evidence for a role of estrogens in human breast cancer was first demonstrated in 1898.
