Abstract

The great class of substances
that we know as
proteins has been recognized for well over hundred years, but extensive research of their composition and function in the body has not been undertaken until comparatively recent years. With the idea that humans, animals and plants need the most protein for living and good health, there appears to be a wide range of protein intake to which adults can adapt and be maintained in good health (Sherman, 1920).
The word ”Protein” lies at the first line of the nutrition due to its essential constituents of all living matter. They are the main structural units of protoplasm. They subserve many physiological immunological function such as building new tissues,
growth, pregnancy and
lactation,
already built, for energy, antibodies, some hormones (Sherman, 1920).
and
upkeep of tissues
as a precursor for enzymes, and some of the B-vitamins.
