Abstract

Young inexperienced drivers are more likely to be involved in road traffic crashes than drivers who are older and more experienced. The main purpose of this study was to identify the risky driving behavior of young drivers and its influence on traffic violations and accidents. To identify the significant predictors of young drivers fatal/injury crashes compared to experienced drivers. Finally, To propose countermeasures in order to mitigate injury severity of drivers by studying the factors which increase injury severity of crashes involving young drivers. In this study, Young drivers were divided into two groups: 16-19 years (Teen Drivers) and 20-24 years (Young Adult Drivers) for a detailed investigation.
Data that were used to achieve the objectives of the study were obtained from the General Administration of Traffic and a driver behavior questionnaire was distributed in several educational institutions in Mansoura city (Mansoura University, Delta Academy for Science, and Misr Higher Institute for Technology). from the analysis of questionnaire data by using Microsoft excel, frequencies of risky driving behaviors; distraction activities while driving, traffic offences, and crash rates that were calculated according to demographic characteristic for each group of drivers were obtained .
Using Statistical Package for Social Scientists program (SPSS), a binary logistics regression analysis was carried out to develop model for each group of drivers that
