Abstract

III is a natural anti coagulant that is synthesized in parynchymal cell of liver
Hepatitis c virus is the major cause of acute and chronic liver disease including liver cirrhosis and cancer.
Liver cirrhosis was high in diabetic chronic hepatitis c virus. Diabetic retinopathy is the most common complication of diabetes mellitus the longer duration of diabetes, the strongest predictor of any diabetic retinopathy.
The aim of this work is to study the level of antithrombin III level in diabetic patients with HCV infection with or without retinopathy.
The study was carried out in internal medicine department and clinical pathology department faculty of medicine Menoufia University.
The study was carried out on 80 patients were participated in this study and they were divided into 4 groups.
The first group 16 patients with HCV infection and diabetes mellitus with retinopathy. The second group 14 patients with HCV infection and diabetes mellitus without retinopathy.
The third group 18 patients with diabetes mellitus with retinopathy. The fourth group 20 patients with diabetes mellitus without retinopathy. And lastly the control group 12 healthy persons.
The study was carried out by radial immune diffusion technique this technique is routinely used for measuring the concentration of various soluble antigens in biological fluid. There is no significant difference between the studied groups as regards age and sex that indicate age and sex are matching among the studied groups.
Also there is highly significant difference between DM&HCV infection with retinopathy than those DM&HCV infection without retinopathy as regard duration of diabetes,
As regard liver enzyme patients with DM&HCV were significantly lower than patients with DM only.
Proliferative diabetic retinopathy is higher percent in diabetic patients than those diabetic patients with HCV infection.
But non Proliferative diabetic retinopathy is higher percent in diabetic patients with HCV infection than those diabetic patients only.
from this study we concluded that anti thrombin III level decrease in diabetic patient with HCV than in diabetic patients without HCV and proliferative diabetic retinopathy were higher in diabetic patients than in diabetic patients with HCV.
Antithrombin III is higher in proliferative diabetic retinopathy than in non proliferative diabetic retinopathy.
