Abstract

In the present the performance of the pump with the same impeller’s outlet diameter having different short blade sizes and with using inducer is thoroughly evaluated. The investigation focuses mostly on the performance characteristics of pump and slip factor value. The influence of short blades on inner flow field and the characteristics of centrifugal pump have been introduced by experimental test rig where impellers configurations is manufactured by the following procedures: a) Sand casting, b) Sand plastering to remove sand traces, c) Machining, d) dynamically balanced. Therefore, the methods of numerical simulation and experimental verification are used to investigate the effects of short blades and using inducer on flow field and performance of a centrifugal pump. The use of numerical analysis tools is used to obtain data in positions where experimentation is not possible. The inner flow fields and characteristics of centrifugal pump with different short blade sizes and with using inducer are simulated and predicted in steady condition by using FLUENT software. The standard k-εturbulence model and SIMPLEC algorithm applied to solve the RANS equations. The simulation is steady and moving reference frame is applied to take into account the impeller-volute interaction. For each four impeller, static pressure distribution and velocity distribution of centrifugal pump are discussed. The numerical analysis has been carried out at 2900 RPM and the changes in head as well as efficiencies and slip factor change have been investigated. The results showed the short blades and with using inducer, the head and static pressure of the model increases. The total head has been improved by 8.9% of original pump total head and overall efficiency also been increased by 7.3 % from the original pump efficiency at operating point. And slip factor value of best performance impeller is 0.81.
