Abstract

Pemphigus vulgaris is an autoimmune blistering disease that affect the
skin and mucous membranes. It is mediated by circulating IgG autoanibodies
directed against cell-cell adhesion between the keratinocytes and
characterized by intra-epithelial bulla on the skin and mucosa.
The aim of this work was to evaluate clinically and biochemically the
effect of zinc supplement on serum uric acid in pemphigus vulgaris patients
under corticosteroid treatment..
In this clinical study, 2o Pemphigus Vulgaris patients will be selected
for this study from the patient pool at dental clinic of the Oral and
Periodontology department of the faculty of Dentistry , Alexandria
university.
There were equally divided into 2 groups:
 Group1 (control group): 10 patients will be given a topical& systemic
corticosteroid therapy (conventional therapy).
 Group 2 (test group): 10 patients will be given topical & systemic
corticosteroid & zinc therapy.
The results of this present study revealed that chelated zinc supplement
in adjunctive to conventional systemic and topical corticosteroid, enhance the
healing of the PV oral mucosal lesions and re-epithelization of eroded oral
mucosa in comparison to the conventional therapy (topical& systemic
corticosteroid).the recommended dose of zinc elevate serum uric acid within
normal range after three months of therapy
