Abstract Treatment of wastewater is one of the biggest problems faced by manufacturers. Industrial zone in port Said, Egypt is experiencing high concentration of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total dissolved solids (TDS) in the final effluent after biological treatment exceeding the standard discharge limit. The researcher aimed to investigate the suitability of using activated carbon and limestone as low cost media for the post-treatment of treated effluent. The physic-chemical treatment adopted in this study is preferred over the other methods because of its simplicity, easy maintenance and quality control. A pilot plant (75L/hrs) was constructed at one of pump station in the industrial area in the south of Port Said, Experimental work was divided into several groups adding activated carbon and limestone with different dosages to wastewater. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the chemical addition followed by filtration on the removal of COD, TDS and TSS .The change of PH value after adding chemicals also had to be examined. |
