Abstract The present work is including ten different cases, each case is individually designed and applied on the selected NACA 4412 airfoil which is commonly used in high lift wind turbine blades. Every case is simulated using suitable computational fluid dynamics computer package. Series of calculations are used on the available resources and information to evaluate the impact of the standard NACA4412 airfoil modifications on both stall angle and cut-in speed. In all cases, chart contours of lift force, drag force, static pressure, pressure coefficient, and lift to drag ratio are presented. Velocity magnitude distribution is plotted using both contours and vectors. The work went through a predefined steps formed the bases of the data recording, plotting and analyzing towards the final conclusion. Some designs showed higher performance by about of (5-6%) than non- modified NACA 4412 for high approaching wind speed and (6-12%) for low approaching wind speed. The work is performed by using an up to date version of WORKBENCH |
