Abstract Powders of different samples of bioactive silicate glass-ceramics were prepared by hydrothermal method (HTM). Thermal energy assisted method is applied for the first time as an alternative to ultrasonic and microwave energy radiation assisted tools. Hydrothermal assisted thermal energy method can achieve the appropriate reaction in a short time and can modify the reaction environment to produce amorphous glassy materials just after a short time of thermal treatment. This study confirmed that it is possible to keep the SiO2 content of the glass system relatively high (74 mol % SiO2), while still retaining the exceptional biocompatibility. The finer powder obtained with this technique (HTM) recommends some of the investigated samples to be applied as compatible, bioactive and biodental materials. Bioactivity and biodentality tests as glass ionomer cement (GIC) were extensively applied and it is found that, the material can possess good application in the field of bone implantation and teeth filler. Moreover, finer powder of the material prepared by the hydrothermal method recommend it to become the essential elements that can be shared in construction new material phases that be used as scaffolds. |
