Abstract
The paper is composed of six chapters: Chapter 1 presents an Introduction to torsion theory. The remaining chapters of this paper detail the torsional and shear stresses in beams. Chapter 2 provides a brief background to the theoretical torsional theory. Chapter 3 provides the torsional warping deformations and stresses. Chapter 4 presents the sectorial properties of thin-walled open sections and solved examples. Chapter 5 provides the general solution of the torsional equation. Chapter 6 discusses a secondary warping effect, conclusions and offers recommendations for future study in this area.
