Abstract

Nanosized mesoporous MCM-41 and aluminosilicates (with different Si/Al ratio) were used for the removal of lead(II), mercury(II), cadmium(II), copper (II), nickel(II) and were characterized by SEM, ICP-OES, IR, TG, small angle XRD and nitrogen adsorption–desorption analysis. The parameters (such as initial pH, temperature... etc) affecting the adsorption capacity of mesoporous MCM-41 and aluminosilicates toward the removal of lead(II), mercury(II), cadmium(II), copper (II), nickel(II) from aqueous solutions are investigated using batch experiments. The isotherm data were analyzed using the Langmuir and Freundlich Eqs. The kinetic results were analyzed using pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order. The thermodynamic parameters including ΔG°, ΔH° and ΔS° for the adsorption processes of pollutants on the prepared sorbents were calculated. The desorption studies were performed. The potential application of the prepared sorbents for removal of the studied heavy from different types of water was evaluated.
