Abstract

The present study was conducted to throw the light on the protective and curative effect of safranal on hepatic and renal toxicity induced by tamoxifen in female rats. Exp.: Thirty six adult female albino rats were randomly allocated into 6 groups. Groups: (control). Rats were treated with Tamoxifen citrate i.p daily. Rats were administered. Rats were administered Saf. before Tamoxifen intoxication, (prot+cur). Rats were administered as curative against hepatorenal injury induced by Tamoxifen, (Cur). Rats were administered Saf. after Tamoxifen. Effect of safranal on antioxidant activity in serum and MDA Conc.: CAT, SOD, GPX, GR, GST: Significant decline in CAT, SOD, GPX, GR and significant increase in GST. TAM intoxication revealed significant increase in CAT,SOD,GPX,GR and significant decrease in GST as compared with those of TAM group. Lipid peroxidation product (MDA): Significant increase in serum MDA activity. Effect of safranal administration on some liver enzymes. Significant increase in serum ALT, AST, ALP activity. TAM intoxication revealed significant decrease in ALT, AST, ALP. Effect of safranal administration on some kidney: Significant increase in serum urea and creatinine activity, TAM intoxication revealed significant decrease in serum urea and creatinine.
