Abstract

Bladder cancer (BC) is the second in incidence and mortality cancer of the genitourinary system and estimated to be the ninth most common malignancy globally. The rates for these tumors are highest in developed countries, where they rank as sixth most frequent neoplasm. Bladder cancer is the fourth most common cancer in men and the seventh in women. Carcinoma of the bladder is the most prevalent cancer in Egypt and in most African countries.
In this study, 75 urine samples of patients with bladder cancer with mean ± SD; 59.40 ± 10.83 years were collected from Urology and Nephrology center & Clinical Oncology and Nuclear Medicine department, Mansoura University. Moreover, a group of 36 healthy individuals were included. The present study obtained the following results: 1. Western blot analysis based on monoclonal antibody against NMP recognized the 52-kDa band in urine of selected patients. No specific reaction was observed with urine samples from healthy individuals. 2. Urine samples of 75 patients with bladder cancer were tested by ELISA for detection of NMP-52 antigen against 36 urine samples collected from healthy individuals as control group. 3. Using ELISA, the NMP-52 was detected in 56 urine samples of total 75 bladder cancer patients with detection rate 74.7%. While, all urine samples from healthy individuals were negative for NMP-52 antigen. 4. The sensitivity for detection of NMP-52 antigen in urine samples from bladder cancer patients using ELISA was 74.7%. 5. The specificity of NMP-52 antigen using ELISA in urine samples of healthy individuals was 100%.
6. The positive predictive value (PPV) of NMP-52 antigen using ELISA was 100 %. 7. The negative predictive value (NPV) of NMP-52 antigen using ELISA was 65.5 %. 8. The efficiency of NMP-52 antigen detection using ELISA was 82.9 %.
