Abstract

This observational cross-sectional case control study was carried out on 50 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)attending Nephrology, Rheumatology and Immunology unit (inpatient and outpatient), Mansoura University Hospital .A control groupof 50 individuals (100% females) of matched age were included. The patient group was subdivided to patients with lupus Nephritis (35 patients) and patients without (15 patients). All patients were diagnosed SLE according to ACR criteria, patients with lupus nephritis were diagnosed by renal biopsy. All patients underwent a thorough clinical evaluation (History, general examination and systemic examination). Laboratory tests including : CBC, ESR, serum creatinine, urinalysis and immunological profile (ANA, antidsDNA, C3 and C4) were done. SLEDAI score was calculated for all patients to detect degree of activity. DNA extraction was done for all patients and controls The laboratory study was carried out at molecular biology laboratory of clinical immunology unit, Clinical Pathology Department, Mansoura University. One SNPs of IL-17A (rs2275913G>A) was genotyped using PCR- RFLP technique Our results revealed that : The frequency of rs2275913 A allele and AA genotype was statistically significantly higher in SLE patients versus control subjects with higher risk to develop SLE.
