Abstract Ipomoea carnea ssp. fistulosa (Mart. ex Choisy) D. Austin belongs to genus Ipomoea (Convolvulaceae). This genus contains 1600-1700 species; I.carnea (Mart. ex Choisy) D. Austin is a native woody perennial shrub, very common throughout the American tropics, ranging from Argentina to the southern states of U.S.A. It is an aggressive weed in wetlands, toxic to cattle and difficult to eradicate. It is cultivated in tropical areas and Egypt as ornamental plant for their showy flowers. This study was carried out to investigate the non repeated biological activities of our plant under investigation in addition to phytochemical investigation for the most biologically active plant organs to isolate and identify the main active constituents. Also this study includes the isolation of the toxic principle (alkaloids) by a new technique. |
