Abstract

It had investigated the effect of BAMP in treatment of growing patients with Class III malocclusion compared to matched untreated group. The treatment sample consisted of a group of ten patients. The sample was selected from the out-patient clinic of Orthodontic Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Suez Canal University. The effect of treatment was compared to the effect of growth changes of matched untreated control group that was taken from a previous study(1995). Treatment group:• Consisted of five males and five females had Class III malocclusion with maxillary retrognathism.• Their ages ranged from nine to twelve years old.• In each treated patient, four miniplates were inserted between the lower left and right lateral incisor and canine and on the left and right infrazygomatic crest of the maxillary buttress. • Class III elastics were applied between the miniplates on each side for twenty four hours a day.• The patients were treated for one year.• Conventional lateral cephalometric radiograph was taken for each patient before and after the treatment.• The cephalometric measurements were analyzed and the obtained results had statistically analyzed.• All miniplates were removed after treatment completion.Control group:• Consisted of seven males and three females patients with Class III malocclusion.• Their ages ranged from nine to twelve years old.• The control group was under observation for one year and had no treatment. On the basis of the results of this study the following conclusions were derived:• Compared with growth of untreated Class III control group the BAMP approach induced a significantorthopedic maxillary advancement and restrict the mandibular growth in growing Class III patients.• The BAMP protocolresulted in an improvement of facial profile.• The BAMP protocolinduceda proclination of upper incisors• The more counterclockwise rotation of the palatal plane than the counterclockwise rotation of the mandibular plane that resulted in increase of Maxillomandibular divergency.• At least eight surgical interventions are required for insertion and removal of the miniplates.
