Abstract Vision disorders are the most prevalent handicapping condition in childhood. Vision disorders include significant refractive error, amblyopia, strabismus, ocular disease, and color deficits. Aim of the study: Estimate the prevalence of vision problems among primary school children. Design: A descriptive cross sectional study. Setting: The study was conducted in two primary schools at Bilshasha village in Kafr El-Sheikh governorate by using multistage sampling technique. Sample: All primary school children at Bilshasha primary schools (700 child) and all teachers & school nurses at the two primary schools. Tools: Three tools was used I. A structured interviewing questionnaire for students developed by researcher. II. Eye assessment and vision examination. III. Structured interviewing questionnaire For teachers & school nurses. Results: 21% of children detected with refractive errors. Among of them, Myopia detected 57.8% , Hypermetropia 23.1%, Astigmatism 10.2%. Conclusion: Refractive Errors constitute a major public health problem in school age children with myopia being the most common. Recommendation: Early detection and timely intervention can easily eliminate these treatable causes of visual impairment. |
