Abstract

M. platycalyx is a timber tree, widely distributed in Uganda and East Africa, where it is known natively as lusambia and lusiola, respectively. It is cultivated in Egypt in El-Zohria botanical garden, Giza.
Botanical Study of M. platycalyx (Baker) Sprague including:
The macro- and micro- morphological characters of the different organs of the plant viz; leavesand stems.
Phytochemical study of M. platycalyx (Baker) Sprague leaves including:
Phytochemical screening, isolation and structural elucidation of the different constituents of the leaves of the plant.
Characterization of the saponifiable matter of the plant.
Investigation of volatile oil constituents of the leaves.
Biological study of M. platycalyx (Baker) Sprague leaves including:
Pharmacological investigation of M. platycalyxleaves including:
anti-inflammatory activity.
