Abstract
The present work aimed at studying the diversity of airborne microbiota inside and outside the T3A cephalosporin factory using different microbiological techniques over four seasons from December 2011 to November 2012. The type and incidence of bacterial and fungal species in different grades of pharmaceutical cleanrooms was determined. The microbial contamination of city and purified water as well as some sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products was also evaluated. Finally, the sensitivity of microbial isolates to some antibacterial and antifungal agents. In addition to the synergistic effect of AgNO3 nanoparticles combined with antimicrobial agents was tested.
The following results were achieved:
1- Variations among the counts of total and individual microbial species were dependant on the level of environmental cleanliness at the sampling sites, type of samples and the season during which these samples were collected.
2- Class A where cephalosporin products were filled was completely free of microbes. Microbial contamination was detectedin other where the highest microbial number (1392 CFUs) was obtained from class D and the lowest (364 CFUs) was found in class B, (94.5% versus 5.5% of total microbes).
