Abstract

Resveratrol and the root of Rumex sp. have a wide variety
of applications in life. The objective of the present study was to
investigate the effect of resveratrol and the root of Rumex sp. as
antioxidants and to evaluate their radioprotective roles against
radiation induced chromosomal aberrations in mice bone - marrow
cells.
To carry out this study, 80 male mice were divided into 16
groups, 5 animals in each group. Animals received single i.p dose
of resveratrol (50, 100mg/kg.bw) and repeated dose of
50mg/kg.bw 30 minutes befor irradiation with a dose of 4 GY γ-
ray. Other groups of animals received single i.p dose of rumex
(25,50mg/kg.bw) and repeated dose of 25mg/kg.bw 30 minutes
befor irradiation. Animals were sacrificed 24 hrs after irradiation
and 50 metaphases spreads were examined per animal for
chromosomal aberrations.
