Abstract
This clinical study was performed on 80 individual subdivided into 4 groups:
Group I: (Sitagliptin group): included 20 recently diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients receiving Sitagliptin 100 mg once daily before breakfast.
Group II: (Vildagliptin group): included 20 recently diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients receiving Vildagliptin 50 mg twice daily before meals.
Group III: (Metformin group): included 20 recently diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients receiving metformin with doses ranging from 1000-2000 mg daily after meals.
And, Group IV: (control group): included 20 apparently healthy volunteers of matched age and sex.
All the included patients and controls were subjected to the followings:
1. Careful history taking
2. Physical and clinical examination
3. Laboratory examination, including:
4. Fasting blood glucose level and 2-hr postprandial glucose level.
5. Glycosylated Hb level (HbA1c).
6. Complete blood count
7. Liver function tests: (ALT, AST, bilirubin and serum albumin)
8. Renal function tests: (serum urea and creatinine)
9. Lipid profile: (total cholesterol, serum triglycerides, LDL , and HDL)
10. Serum insulin level.
