Abstract Occupational stress has become one of the most severe health problems in the world, as it happens in any occupation and is even more present than decades ago. It can reduce the enjoyment in life, cause hypertension, cardiac problems, reduce immunity and the overall status of mental and physical wellbeing (Bhatia et al., 2010). Nurses are particularly at risk for stress-related problems, with high rates of turnover, absenteeism, and burnout (Antigoni et al., 2011). Results from previous studies suggested that occupational stress among nurses was the result of exposure to a combination of factors related to the working environment and personal factors (Kawano, 2008). The aim of the study was to examine the occupational stress and its leading causes among outpatient clinics nurses. Cross sectional descriptive design was used to achieve the aim of the study. The study was conducted at outpatient clinics in El-Shohadaa central hospital, Shebin El-kom educational hospital and University hospital at Menoufia University.
