Abstract Hypertension is an overwhelming global challenge, which ranks third as a means of reduction in disability-adjusted life-years. Due to the fact that hypertension is one of the most important modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, treatment that commences once it is recognized reduces the cardiovascular risk of the individual. Therefore, access to treatment with antihypertensive medication and compliance with treatment are key factors in the control of hypertension. The aim of the study was to examine medication adherence among hypertensive patients in out patient clinics. Descriptive cross sectional design was used. This study was conducted in an outpatient clinics in EL-Shohada disdrict, Menoufia governorate. A systematic random sample consisted of 500 hypertensive patients aged 40 years old or more and had been diagnosed with hypertension with or without diabetes mellitus were selected. |
