Abstract

This investigation was mainly carried out in laboratory and field to develop and evaluate an environmental cabin with effective control techniques. Digital handheld PM2.5 concentration meter were used to measure the particulate matter that is 2.5 micrometers (PM2.5) aerosol number concentration, g/m3 inside and outside the cabin.The ratio of the two measurements (i.e., protection factor = outside concentration / inside concentration) was used to calculate how efficient the tractor cabin was at removing aerosols, then inverted these protection factors termed aerosol penetration.Testing was conducted to evaluate compliance with American Society of Agricultural Engineers Standard S525, ASAE. In the stationary in laboratory test, the tractor’s cab is isolated by glass wool and placed in a 25m3 volume of enclosed testing chamber. PM2.5 aerosol, generated by burning incense sticks, while pesticide aerosol generated by sprayer. Experiments were done under four parameters namely three different modes of aeration systems in insulated cab included, (fresh air mode, re-circulation mode and Evaporative cooling mode), four different air fan speed of (1.8, 2.1, 2.5 and 3 m/sec.), three different filters media are used activated carbon, silica gel and activated alumina Potassium Permanganate. Two different zones of sampling are used (In-cabin and out-cabin). In field tests, fabricate a prototype safe cabin suit the tractor and evaluate that cabin continue to be protective of workers during the pesticides sprayed. Field experiments were done under four parameters namely Four forward speed of the tractor of 0.9, 1.24, 1.6 and 2m/sec., four different air fan speed of (1.8, 2.1, 2.5 and 3 m/sec.), three different movement depending on the wind direction are used with direction (00), orthogonal (900) and against (1800). Three different Active Ingredients of pesticides varieties are used Chlorpyrifos 48%, Dimethoate 40% and Carbendazim 50%. Two different zones of sampling are used (In-cabin and out-cabin). The obtained results indicated that the filtration system inside cab was 98.97%, efficient at removing particles of PM2.5 with a mean protection factors of 87 in this particles of PM2.5, while aerosol penetration through filter inside cab, was record (1/87) = 0.0115, obtained with fresh air mode inside cab at air fan speed of 1.8 m/sec. In additional, the results indicated that the using of the portable unit by 1.8 m/sec of air fan speed with dust pad filter, HEPA filter, activated carbon filter and final stage of activated alumina potassium permanganate filter for fitted on any traditional cabin to achieve the higher efficiency when spraying the pesticides with sprayer mounted on or towed behind tractors at forward speed 0.9 when moves against the wind direction.
