Abstract

Nutrition plays an influential role in human health. Plants are one of the most important sources of medicines. The medicinal plants are rich
in secondary metabolites (which are potential sources of drugs) and
essential oils of therapeutic important. The important advantages claimed
for therapeutic uses of medicinal plants in various ailments are their
safety besides being economical, effective and their easy availability.
Because of these advantages the medicinal plants have been widely used
by the traditional medical practitioners in their day to day practice.
Sumac is the common name for a genus (Rhus) that contains over
250 individual species of flowering plants in the family Anacardiaceae.
These plants are found in temperate and tropical regions worldwide.
Sumac has marked potential for future research. It has been used in
the treatment diarrhea and as stomach tonic in traditional medicine for
centuries.
The purpose of present study is to investigate the effect of
consuming the sumac powder at different concentrations to prevent
diarrhea on the female human health using of white experimental rats of
Sprague dawley strain.
Sumac seeds (Rhus coriaria Linn, Anacardiacea) were purchased
from a local herbal market in Cairo, Egypt and kept in polyethylene bags
at cooling temperature until crushed and mixed, directly with
experimental diet formulas.
Castor oil was purchased from a pharmacy in Cairo, Egypt. It is a
small refill about 60 g and kept at cooling temperature until using. Sumac
samples were milled than blended directly with experimental diet
formulas.
