Abstract Worldwide hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is rapidly fatal cancer. The search for suitable hepatocellular carcinoma biomarkers is very intensive. Besides, efficacy and cost/effectiveness of screening and surveillance of cirrhotic for the diagnosis of HCC is still debated. So, the present study is concerned with the evaluation of nuclear matrix protein-52 (NMP-52) for detection of HCC. One-hundred and fifteen individuals categorized into two groups {115 HCC patients and 35 healthy control} constituted this study. Western blot was used for identifying NMP-52 in serum samples. As a result, a single immunoreactive band was shown at 52 KDa corresponding to NMP-52.These marker was quantified in sera using ELISA. Patients with HCC had high concentrations of NMP-52 than healthy with a significant difference (P<0.0001). Using ROC curves, we assessed the diagnostic accuracy of the NMP-52 among HCC patients compared with healthy individuals, AUC = 0.84 and P < 0.0001. NMP-52 had sensitivity 74% and specificity 94%. |
