Abstract Introduction:- Athletes and bodybuilders consumed high protein supplements to obtain energy and enhance the development and strength of their muscles. Over time different investigations have revealed dysfunctions of their body organs. There are contradictions between scientists concerning the benefits and the alarm of developing body dysfunction. Methods: We assigned male Wistar albino rats to 3 groups(n=10 each), control, hyperwhey protein (2.5g/kg body weight) and super amino 2500. (2.5g/kg body weight). The applied dose was orally administered daily in tap water for 14 weeks. Results: Hyperwhey and super amino 2500 supplemented rats had lower body weight gain in comparison with the control and developed organs dysfunction manifested by apparent congestion of blood vessel, reduction of spermatogenic cells and edematous lesions in between Seminiferous tubules of testis, vacuolar degeneration of follicle cells and reduction of thyroglobulin of thyroid, increased apoptosis and breakdown of hepatocyte and spermatogenic cell. SA had thickening of the liver capsule and more drastic damage of hepatocytes. The level of transaminases was markedly increased. Also insulin level was markedly decreased in parallel with increase cholesterol, LDL and triglycerides as well as decrease T3,T4 and testosterone. Conclusion: Hyperwhey and super amino protein formula administration dramatically altered the liver function and increased hepatic damage similar to the development of suspected diabetes ,damage of thyroid follicles confirmed by depletion of T3 & T 4 and Impaired testis function and increased sperm abnormalities and decrease testosterone. |
