Abstract The present study dealt with chemically modification of natural cotton for icreasing the selectivity and sensitivity of natural cotton by inserting certain functional groups for removal of some harmful metal ions and dyes. The obtained results can be summarized as follow : The optimum pH for the maximum sorption capacity of all studied metal ions lie within the range (5-6). 2- The optimum pH for the maximum sorption capacity of all studied organic dyes lie within the range (5-6). 3- There is a higher number of sorption /desorption cycles which led to the possibility of reusing the modified cellulose for several times . 4- The sorption capacity of (C-TU ),is lie within the range (40-80mg g-1) for Hg II, Cu II and Cd II .The sorption capacity of ion imprinted (Hg-C-TU ), is (110 mg g-1 ) for Hg II .The sorption capacity of (C-EDA-ECR),is (46 mg g-1) for Al III. 5- The sorption capacity of (Cu-C-TU), is lie within the range (100-200 mg g-1) for the organic dyes (ECR, SPADNS). 6- All the metal ions sorbed could be eluted using 0.1 M hydrochloric acid solution taken the advantage that, chloride ions is an acceptable matrix for both AAS and spectrophotometric determinations. |
