Abstract Background research topic The study suggestsapotential for using LED light at 670,880 and 950 nm simultaneously and in combination with laser light at 850 nm in the same head, together with different types of drugs for acceleration of treatment of PHN. ThisStudyaimed at evaluatingthe effect of phototherapyusing threvious wavelengths at the same timeonPHNpatientscompared withPHN atientswhowere treated withdrugs only to reach the best results in pain relief. Methods and techniques Forty patients divided into 2 groups: First control group (A), 20 patients reated with drug only and second group (B), 20 patients treated with drug & phototherapy (combinedlaser and LED).The methods used to assess this study were: Gross observation, Neurological examination and Pain Analogue Scale ( PAS) The results of this study demonstrated thatgroup(B)who were treated totherapy & drugssimultaneously with contact controlalleviate pain of post herpeticneuralgia cases significantly morethan those of group(A)who were treated with drug only. The results also showed thatphototherapy apparatushas a large spot size soit is suitable for largeaffected areas and showed a remarkable success in the speed of pain relief andtreatment ofPHN. Results are very good and acceptable when comparedwith other global research in the same subject with different doses, exposure time and frequency Aging, premorbid diseases and long duration between diagnosis and starting treatment were inversely correlated with the response to therapy. However, these relations did notreach a significant value. On the contrary, duration of phototherapy was correlated significantly with the response to therapy in relieving pain. |
