Abstract

The present study provides the impact of bacterial compound (biofriend), rice husk, rice husk biochar (Rhb1, Rhb2 and Rhb3) and commercial active carbon on wastewater purification for rice production. The obtained results can be summarized as follow: 1- Rhb3 considered the best adsorbent for cadmium and lead adsorption ability in their single and mixed solutions. The presence of commercial active carbon by the comparison it is found that it exceeds Rhb3 in the case of lead.2- Husk scored high adsorption values for cadmium and lead, but its adsorption of cadmium exceeds that for lead. 3- The adsorption values for cadmium by using Rhb3 were ranged between 73.68 and 87.57%. While adsorption values of lead were ranged between 78.17% and 89.08%. 4- The adsorption values for cadmium by using active carbon were ranged between 48.16% and 67.89%. While adsorption values of lead were ranged between 80.64 and 89.92%.5- In the case of drainage water, Rhb3 scored 82.04% and 82.12 for cadmium and lead respectively. 6- All measured growth characters increased by using wastewater in irrigation of rice plants than using treated water, at the pot conditions. The mean increase in shoot and root length, fresh weights and dry weight were by 4.52% and 9.25%, 10.65% and 9.70%, 10.64% and 14.40%, respectively. All measured yield characters also increased, the mean increase percentages in panicle length, panicles number per plant, grains number per panicle, grains number per plant, 1000-grains weight, and single plant yield were by: 2.16, 4.49, 2.40, 1.33, 2.32, and 1.05 %, respectively. 7-Cadmium and lead contents in different rice plant organs, seeds and soil were measured. Results showed elevation in cadmium and lead content in (W) plants and soil cultivated on it, but the increase in lead content was much higher than that of cadmium.
