Abstract Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is reported to enhance healing in dental implant procedures and dentoalveolar surgeries. However, few studies evaluated the effects of PRF after impacted mandibular third molar surgery. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of platelet-rich fibrin clot on postoperative pain, analgesic consumption, soft tissue healing and socket complications in mandibular third molar extraction sockets. The study results showed that PRF application after mandibular third molar extraction significantly decreases the severity of postoperative pain, analgesic consumption and reduces the incidence of alveolar osteitis compared with the control group. However, insignificant difference was observed between the study groups regarding soft tissue healing. |
