Abstract Periodontal therapy aims to remove bacterial deposits from the tooth surfaces and to shift the pathogenic bacteria to one compatible with periodontal health. The most common method for treatment of periodontitis involves mechanical debridement of periodontal pockets by scaling and root planing (SRP) along with effective plaque control and in some cases surgery may be indicated4. So Our aim is to evaluate the efficacy of mangiferin as adjunctive local delivery therapy versus chlorhexidine for treatment of chronic periodontitis. Mangiferin showed antioxidant effect which was demonstrated significantly both in vivo16 and in vitro17. The use of local mangiferin as an adjunct to the mechanical treatment of severe chronic periodontitis demonstrated improvements in clinical parameters. Chlorhexidine as control resulted in the same outcome. These findings indicate that the adjunctive use of mangiferin is beneficial as well as chlorhexidine in the treatment of severe chronic periodontitis cases. |
