Abstract

Evaluation of retention of four esthetic clasps retaining maxillary free end saddle removable partial denture (in vitro comparative study) /
This in vitro study was aimed to evaluate retention of four different esthetic clasps retaining maxillary distal extension removable partial denture.
This in vitro study dealt with four different removable partial denture clasps on both maxillary first premolar crowns (Equipoise clasps, RPA clasps fabricated by cobalt-chromium alloy covered with Teflon tube, RPA clasps fabricated by polyamidematerial, RPA clasps fabricated by Acetal resinmaterial). Metal ring hooks were made,soldered to the occlusal rest of clasp assembly. Each clasp was seated manually to be pulled by the jig of the universal testing machine. Data analysis was performed.
Totally it was found that RPA clasps with Teflon tube covere group recorded the highest retention force {mean value (13.92 ± 1.41 N) followed by Equipoise clasps group (5.19 ±0.59 N) then Polyamide clasps group (4.99 ±0.34 N)}, while Acetal resin clasps group recorded the lowest retention force mean value (3.33 ± 0.33 N). In regardless of clasp type, totally it was found that 0.25 mm- undercut recorded a higher retention force mean value (7.79 ± 0.47 N) than the 0.5 mm one (5.92 ± 0.7 N).
Within the limitations of this in vitro study, it can be concluded that RPA clasps fabricated by cobalt-chromium alloy covered with Teflon tube recorded the highest retention force, while Acetal resin clasps group recorded the lowest retention force.
