Abstract

1. Introduction: - North Sinai of Egypt have a low population density compared to the Nile valley and Delta and is considered to be potential area for establishing new communities. This is basically due to the strategic location and existence of various natural resources such as mineral , cultivable soils and recreation places. Information on land use change is critical for integrated and sustainable land use planning. Such information is useful in identifying opportunities to protect land uses. Desertification is land degradation occurring in arid, and semiarid areas of the world. Research scope: - The use of data , techniques of remote sensing, ERDAS Imagine (ver. 2014) , geographic information systems ,Landsat images for the years 1984, 2003 and 2015 and the digital elevation (DEM), MEDALUS model were used to establish the main land type layer, this layer was used as a base map in the geographic information system and Monitor changes in land cover and environmental sensitivity. Research objective: - The main objective of this work was to conduct a preliminary assessment of the land resources in North Sinia and its affected on Susceptibility to Desertification . This also helps in Taking necessary for the sustainability of land resources development and reduce areas desertification precautions, produce land use classification maps for available land resources and evaluate the environmental sensitivity to desertification. Steps Study :- The Landsat ETM image of the studied area and the digital elevation(DEM) , this layer was used as a base map in the geographic information system using (ArcGIS ver. 10.2. The use of indicators (NDVI,SAVI ) to analyze the changes in agriculture and for years 1984,2003,2015 and used was the MEDALUS model to study the environmental sensitivity and produce maps Sensitive Lands. Summary of Study:- Technology of Remote Sensing and geographic information systems provide tools can be less expensive and more accurate and effective to detect the spatial distribution of vegetation , and spatial distribution of environmentally sensitive areas and its impact on the resources available.
