Abstract The combined effect of mercerizing and dyeing processes on physical properties of yarns and plain jersey knitted fabrics made from these yarns has been studied. Plied cotton yarn was produced and mercerized at different NaOH concentrations, and temperatures. Then this yarn was bleached and dyed with vat and reactive dyes. Physical and color properties were measured to these treated yarns. ANOVA analysis (one-way ANOVA) test was performed to the properties of yarns. Plain single jersey knitted fabrics were produced from these treated yarns. Physical, color, thermal properties were measured to the produced knitted fabrics. In addition, MANOVA (two-way ANOVA) test was performed to these fabric properties .The total evaluation of plain single jersey fabric properties was measured. It was found that the highest area of radar chart, which represents the total physical properties, was achieved at 32°Be`, in case of vat and reactive dyeing. While, the total area of radar chart in case of vat dyeing was higher than reactive dyeing. The transfer function could be used to correlate between yarns and fabric properties and found to be higher for vat dyeing than reactive dyeing for this type of end–use as T-shirt. The aim of the thesis: -Mercerization and dyeing of yarns at different variables. -Production of knitted fabrics from these yarns. -Studying the combined effect of mercerization and dyeing on the yarns and knitted fabrics produced from these yarns. |
