Abstract The present study evaluated the clinical role of topical use of heparin in the treatment of burns. To fulfill this goal a controlled study was designed with two groups of patients (twenty patients in each). group I received topical heparin doses while group II represented the control. They were of both sexes and different age groups, sustained burns up to 30%TBSA of deep 2nd degree and admitted to the Burn Unit of Mansoura University in the period from September 30, 2013 to September 30, 2015.Upon admission each patient was subjected to:Complete detailed history. • Thorough general examination.• Burn examination.All patients received the same standardized lines of burns treatment except that group I patients received topical heparin.>The topical heparin dose (100,000 IU per 15%total BSA per day)Was sprayed or dripped onto burn surfaces.Every patient in both groups was monitored hourly for the vitalSigns and urine output during the first two days post burn.Complete blood picture, blood urea, and serum creatinine, arterialblood gases and haematocrit value were repeated done for the patients ofboth groups while coagulation time ( before every heparin dose )and dailyPTT were done only for the heparin group. |
