Abstract

Introduction;
. Assessment of the prognosis of acute leukemia involves a number of clinical and laboratory criteria such as morphology, surface markers, cytogenetics and other recent criteria such as serum markers .
Aim of work;
The aim of this work is to investigate the validity of measuring ILGF-1in serum of children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) ,before and after induction of chemotherapy, as an additional marker in diagnosis and follow up the disease with clinical and laboratory data.
Patients and method;
Thirty (30) children of acute lymphoplastic leukemia (ALL) (B and T cell lineage subtypes) were participated in the present study. (Seventeen patients were females and thirteen patients were males). Their age ranged from 1 to 18 years with mean age = 6.1 years and median of 5 years. Patients were selected from inpatients of Menoufiya University Hospital and benha hospital of children.
we took informed consent from each parents of every child included in this study approval from ethical committee of Menoufiya faculty of medicine .
Results
It was found that level of IGF1 before treatment in low risk was 10< 30ng and 3 >30ng with mean 32.7 and SD 11.3 and in standard group was 12 <30ng and 2 > 30ng with mean 27.7 and SD 8.9 and in the high risk group was 3 <30ng and o>30ng with mean 13 and SD 4.3 this was statistically significant according to test (p-value <0.05 ) .
It was found that level of IGF1 after treatment in low risk was 1< 30ng and 12 >30ng with mean 138 and SD 35.7 and in standard group was 4 <30ng and 10 > 30ng with mean 106.4 and SD 25.1 and in the high risk group was 3 <30ng and o>30ng with mean 28.3 and SD 4.2 this was statistically significant according to test (p-value <0.05 )
It was found that level of IGF1 in control group was 2< 30ng with mean 29 and SD 5.3and 18 >30ng with mean 143 and SD 45.6 .
IGF1 pretreatment is slightly better than post treatment IGF1 for prediction of mortality with 55.6% sensitivity and 51.2% specificity
There was significantly longer survival among patients with low and standard risk than those with high risk and also there was longer survival among female patients than male ones while age has no relation with survival.
