Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the association of HLA-DQB1 alleles with the susceptibility to or protection from HCV infection in Egyptian families. This study included: 324 Egyptian families from different Egyptian governorates including Cairo, Dakahlia, Gharbiah, Damietta and Upper Egypt, and the samples were collected in the period from 2013 to 2015. Comparing the carriage of candidate allele with the carriage of other genotypes we found that: -DQB1*02:01:01 allele was strongly associated with the susceptibility to HCV infection. While DQB1*03:01:01:01 act as a protective allele for HCV infection, so both alleles may have a great contribution of host genetic factors affecting HCV infection outcome in Egyptian families. -HLA-DQB1*03:01:01:01 allele act as protective allele against HCV infection, and subjects with allele are at a lower risk of developing CHC infection. -The current study provides a new evidence that a specific HLA-DQB1 alleles may be important mediators of host capacity to clear HCV infection.
