Abstract

The aim of this work was to study the interaction between OSCC and their stromal microenvironment both in primary sites and/or in lymph nodes. Forty cases of OSCC were included in the present study and were classified according to lymph node involvment. The studied cases were classified clinically according to the TNM staging system. Paraffin sections(4 microns) were prepared for H&E staining, for re-evaluation of the histopathological diagnosis according to WHO classification as well as Anneroth G et al.,grading of malignancy. Besides, the immunohistochemical evaluation of α-SMA, CD163, Twist and D2-40 was examined in all studied cases. In addition statistical analysis was performed. The tumor cells invading the lymph nodes were noticed to have the same or higher histological grade of their primary ones. All of the markers showed reactivity in lymph nodes (sub group) however, they were statistically of significant less expression in LNs than their primary ones.
