The present study was carried out to elucidate the possible protective effect of dill, parsley watery extracts and their combination on liver injury induced by CCl4 in male rats and comparing this effect with the standard hepatoprotective drug silymarin:
One hundred and thirty five adult male rats were employed for this study. There were divided into 9 equal groups each of 15 rat as follows:
1. First group (Control group ) given paraffin oil 1.0 ml/kg 3 times a week for 7 weeks.
2. Second group given CCl4 in a dose of 1 ml /kg b.wt. (Diluted 1:1 in paraffin oil 3 times/ week for two weeks.
3. Third group normal rats given aqueous extract of parsley in a dose of 250 mg/kg b.wt. 3 days a week for two weeks given orally.
4. Fourth group (normal group) given aqueous extract of dill in a dose of 250 mg/kg b.wt. 3 days a week for two weeks given orally.
5. Fifth group (normal rats) given silymarin in a dose of 25 mg/kg b.wt. 3 days a week for two weeks given orally.
6. CCl4 intoxicated group given dill in the same dose and time.
7. CCl4 intoxicated group given aqueous extract of parsley in the same dose and time .
8. CCl4 intoxicated group given the aqueous extracts of the two plants in the same recommended doses for the same time.
