Abstract

This experiment was conducted during two successive growing seasons of 2012 and 2013 to study the effect of different irrigation levels and soil conditioner application on growth, productivity and fruit quality, constituent of 4 years old pomegranate trees cv. Manfalouty under sandy soil conditions and the distribution of soluble salts, moisture percentage and root dry weight in the soil profile at the farm of Horticulture Research Station at Kassasin, Ismailia Governorate, Egypt. The results showed that, all investigated parameters responded specifically to different irrigation rates. The highest values were significantly exhibited by those trees irrigated with 12 and 15 m3/tree/year. Also, the addition of soil conditioner at 250 g/tree/year proved to be more effective in enhancing many of investigated parameters i.e; yield and its component’s, fruit quality, vegetative growth… etc. comparing with other soil conditioner rates.
Conclusively, irrigation at 12 m3/ tree/ year (2000 m3/fed/year) combined with the addition of soil conditioner at 250 grams / tree / year induced a pronounced positive effect on tree growth, productivity and fruit quality besides, enhanced highest water use efficiency
