Abstract This study aims at preparing a recent checklist for the ornamental and crop plant species and their habitats in Nile Delta and its outskirts. The lists are analyzed in terms of taxonomic diversity, growth and sex forms flowering activity, propagation methods, economic potentiality, national and global floristic distribution. It aims also at identifying the vegetation types and the environmental factors that govern the gradual change in vegetation structure. In addition to prepare a herbarium collection for the cultivated plants in Nile Delta to be kept in Tanta University Herbarium (TANE), and building up a computerized data base dealing with the botany, environment and economic importance of these species .In the present study, 255 field visits were conducted to many locations in the study area during the period from summer 2012 to summer 2014 (155 for the ornamental plants and 100 for the crop plants). Plant specimens were collected from different sites in each garden in the different governorates Information of crop plants was collected from the field and from the Agricultural Directorate in each governorate during the period from summer 2012 to spring 2014. |
