Abstract In the last two decades, irradiated cercariae were widely used as a tool for vaccination of experimental animals against reinfection with schistosomes as an alternative strategy for chemotherapy. The aim of the present work is to study the effect of various doses of UV radiation upon the infectivity and maturation of Schistosoma mansoni cercariae, the histological changes of worms developed from irradiated cercariae and the antibody response in mice infected with non-irradiated and irradiated cercariae. |
