Abstract

This study aimed to investigate The effect of natural dietary choline sources of animal plus vegetable origins on hepatointoxication. Forty four (44) adult male albino rats, weighting (15010g) were divided into 11 groups, four rats each. One of them was kept as a control –ve group, while the other ten groups were injected subcutaneous (0.5 ml of 1:1mixture of CCl4 and paraffin oil). the cow liver, parsley, coriander and mustard were added at percent 5% and7.5% from the basel diet and given as either single or mixture. Body weight, feed intake, feed efficiency ratio, serum glucose, liver function, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) enzymes, total protein, total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoproteins cholesterol (HDLc), low-density lipoproteins cholesterol (LDLc) and very low-density lipoproteins cholesterol (VLDLc), kidney functions (urea and uric acid), immunological indicators assayed and histopathological changes of liver and kidney have been evaluated. from the obtained results it was revealed that feeding on cow liver, parsley, coriander and mustard caused significant (P ≤ 0.05) increase in weight gain, feed intake, feed efficiency ratio, HDLc, but with significant (P ≤ 0.05) decreases in the result of the analyses as compared with control (+ve) group and our study indicated that cow liver, parsley, coriander and mustard could be exhibited its therapeutic effects in liver through decreasing the enzymatic activity (ALT, AST, ALP), serum total billirubin, TC, TG, LDL-c, VLDL-c , creatinine, uric acid, fasting serum glucose and increased total protein, albumin, HDL-c, GST and CAT with reference to the improvement of some other physiological characteristics. Histopathological investigations confirmed the biochemical changes and in general liver and kidney functions.
